One of the most catastrophic errors recurring in examiner reports is the units mismatch in physical chemistry equations. This is particularly prevalent in thermodynamic calculations involving Gibbs Free Energy: ΔG=ΔH−TΔS \Delta G = \Delta H - T\Delta S ΔG=ΔH−TΔS. While enthalpy change (ΔH \Delta H ΔH) is routinely quoted in kJ mol−1 ^{-1} kJ mol−1, entropy change (ΔS \Delta S ΔS) is given in J K−1 mol−1 ^{-1} ^{-1} J K−1 mol−1. Failing to convert ΔS \Delta S ΔS by dividing by 1000 (or multiplying ΔH \Delta H ΔH by 1000) leads to an error of magnitude that instantly invalidates your final value.
