- To secure a Grade 9 in Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry, you must target the areas where examiners consistently report massive mark drops. The quantitative questions in Paper 1C and Paper 2C are not merely tests of math; they are precision drills. In energetics, for example, many students lose the final sign mark. Whenever you calculate molar enthalpy change (ΔH\Delta HΔH), you must explicitly include a sign (+ or -) in your final answer. An exothermic reaction requires a negative sign (e.g., −47.8 kJ/mol-47.8 −47.8 kJ/mol). Neglecting this sign immediately costs the final mark, even if your absolute numerical value is correct.
